As part of the Community Health Improvement Plan, the Community Health Task Force and the Florida Department of Health in Bay County are holding a mass screening event. The event will be held on April 4 from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. There will be a total of 15 sites throughout Bay County where people can access these free checks on their health.
“Monitoring health indicators such as blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol and heart rate are important factors to the improvement of health outcomes” said Florida Department of Health in Bay County’s Administrator and Community Health Task Force Board member Douglas M. Kent, MPH. “Diabetes is the most preventable disease in our county; therefore, emphasis is placed on the importance of knowing results of glucose testing. Overall individual health is sustained by a proactive approach in maintaining a healthy lifestyle, proper healthcare, nutrition, exercise and weight management”.
4/4 Your Health will provide blood sugar, blood pressure, cholesterol and heart rate checks. These screenings are being conducted as part of the Community Health Improvement Plan under the focus of the Chronic Diseases Including Diabetes Action Team. Through the Community Health Assessment, heart disease was identified as an area of concern by residents. Diabetes continues to be a disease that community members say is a major health issue in Bay County.

4/4 Your Health marks the first time we are offering screenings for heart health indicators. Previously, we focused on blood sugar only. These events in 2013 and 2015 proved successful. The 2013 screening was the largest in the State of Florida. From this screening, we confirmed the prevalence of diabetes and pre-diabetes in our area at one in three persons. Many of these people were unaware until they participated in the event. We hope this new event helps others uncover unknown illnesses so that they can seek proper care.
Special thanks to our partners for this event; the Florida Department of Health in Bay County, Gulf Coast State College, North Bay Haven Health Occupation Program, North Bay Haven Graphic Design Program, Medical Reserve Corps, Bay Medical Sacred Heart, Gulf Coast Regional Medical Center, iHeart Radio, Healthy Start, PanCare, Inc., and all the locations allowing us to conduct screenings.
